چکیده

The nomen nudum Begonia hemicardia Elmer ex Merr. (Begonia sect. Petermannia) was coined by A.D.E. in 1915. He annotated one of his collections (14366 from Mount Bulusan, Luzon) the PNH herbarium with name but did not formally publish it. E.D. Merrill 1923 recognised as a synonym binuangensis After thorough studies living and preserved specimens relevant literature, we found to be different B. binuangensis. is allied group climbing Philippines axillary inflorescences numerous, subsymmetrical, ovate lanceolate-ovate leaves, namely aequata A.Gray, binuangensis, edanoii Merr., gracilipes lagunensis Elmer, megacarpa sarmentosa L.B.Sm. & Wassh. wenzelii However, combination characters such long internodes, large persistent stipules, serrate leaf margins, inflorescence staminate flowers borne on jointed rachis readily distinguish these other species, validly describe new species here.

Development and characterization of microsatellite markers for Central American Begonia sect. Gireoudia (Begoniaceae)1

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Transcriptome sequence data were used to design microsatellite primers for two widespread Central American Begonia species, B. heracleifolia and B. nelumbiifolia, to investigate population structure and hybridization. • METHODS AND RESULTS The transcriptome from vegetative meristem tissue from the related B. plebeja was mined for microsatellite loci, and 31 ...

The Miocene to Pleistocene colonization of the Philippine archipelago by Begonia sect. Baryandra (Begoniaceae).

PREMISE OF THE STUDY One third of the species-rich Philippine flora is endemic, and most of the islands in the archipelago have never been connected to a continental region. We currently lack any well-sampled angiosperm phylogenies that span the archipelago, prohibiting the formation of informed hypotheses as to the evolution of this rich and highly endemic flora. METHODS We produced time-cal...

Three new species of Begonia (Begoniaceae) from Bahia, Brazil

The taxonomic treatment of Begoniaceae for the state of Bahia, Brazil, led to the recognition of three new species of Begonia with narrow distributions, which are described and illustrated here: Begoniadelicata Gregório & J.A.S. Costa, sp. nov. is a herb restricted to the region of the Recôncavo; Begoniaelianeae Gregório & J.A.S. Costa, sp. nov. is a shrub endemic to the Atlantic forest of the ...

Genetic diversity and gene flow in the morphologically variable, rare endemics Begonia dregei and Begonia homonyma (Begoniaceae).

Begonia dregei and B. homonyma (Begoniaceae), rare plants endemic to coastal forests of eastern South Africa, are two closely related species with high levels of variation among populations in the shape of leaves. Distribution of genetic variation and genetic relatedness were investigated in 12 populations of B. dregei and seven of B. homonyma using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Twelve of...

Lactobacillus arizonensis is a later heterotypic synonym of Lactobacillus plantarum.

The 'Lactobacillus plantarum group' encompasses the taxa Lactobacillus plantarum subsp. plantarum, Lactobacillus plantarum subsp. argentoratensis, Lactobacillus paraplantarum, Lactobacillus pentosus and Lactobacillus arizonensis. In this study, the phylogenetic position of L. arizonensis was examined using 16S rRNA gene-specific methodologies (16S rRNA sequencing and ribotyping) and genomic DNA...
